From Detection to Action: Managing VLE in Real Time

SNITCH™ Vapor Intelligence System - Back View The SNITCH™ detects and characterizes emission events at the source, transforming tank-top activity into actionable operational data. By correlating pressure and gas concentrations with separator and dump-cycle behavior, the system provides a closed-loop perspective of the production process.

This visibility allows operators to fine-tune separator pressures and flare or enclosed combustion device (ECD) flows in response to real-world variability such as temperature, barometric pressure, and fluid composition changes.

Data are transmitted via MODBUS for integration into SCADA systems, with configurable alarms for methane and/or H₂S exceedances. Future enhancements include automated control integration and advanced analytics for predictive maintenance.

The Science Behind the Snitch

Vapor-liquid equilibrium (VLE) is a dynamic process which requires an intelligent control system. VLE is impacted by feedstock composition and throughput as well as environmental flux and system integrity. By continuously monitoring critical vapor release points (e.g., thief hatch, ancillary vents, level controllers, etc.) an operator can better understand system status and thermodynamic efficiency – allowing for manual and/or automatic feedback control – thus modulating the density shift of saleable products toward natural VLE.
