Frequently Asked Questions about Compliance and Emissions Data Reporting Interface (CEDRI)

    Your Guide to Understanding CEDRI

We understand that navigating EPA compliance requirements—especially CEDRI Reporting—can be challenging. That’s why we’ve put together this comprehensive CEDRI Reporting FAQ to help you better understand the Compliance and Emissions Data Reporting Interface (CEDRI), who needs to use it, and how it impacts your facility. Our goal is to provide clear, reliable information to support your compliance efforts while also making it easier for businesses to meet EPA reporting requirements efficiently. Whether you’re new to CEDRI or looking for specific answers, this guide is designed to simplify the process and keep you informed.

    What is CEDRI?

CEDRI, or the Compliance and Emissions Data Reporting Interface, is a component of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) effort to streamline the reporting of emissions and compliance data. CEDRI provides a centralized platform for facilities to submit required data electronically, improving accuracy, efficiency, and accessibility.

    Who needs to use CEDRI?

Facilities subject to EPA regulations that require emissions and compliance data reporting must use CEDRI. This includes industries such as manufacturing, power generation, chemical production, and other sectors subject to air quality standards and emissions guidelines.

What are the key features of CEDRI?

    • Electronic Reporting: CEDRI allows for the submission of data electronically, eliminating the need for paper-based reporting and reducing administrative burden.
    • Standardized Formats: The platform provides standardized templates and forms, ensuring consistency in data reporting.
    • Data Validation: CEDRI includes built-in validation checks to identify errors or inconsistencies in submitted data, helping to improve data quality.
    • Secure Access: The system ensures that sensitive information is protected through secure access controls and encryption.
    • Integration with Other EPA Systems: CEDRI integrates with other EPA databases and systems, facilitating comprehensive environmental data management.

What kind of reports can be submitted to CEDRI?

The EPA reports that CEDRI supports the submittal of four types of reports:

    • Performance Test Reports – The Electronic Reporting Tool (ERT), built in Microsoft Access, is used to generate files containing emissions source test data. Facilities upload these files to CDX using CEDRI.
    • Notification Reports – A Notification Report or Notification of Compliance Status (NOCS) is a report typically submitted by a regulated facility that notifies the designated authority that the facility has achieved compliance with an applicable regulation.
    • Periodic Reports – Reports submitted by the facility that may demonstrate initial compliance or that demonstrate the facility has maintained continuous compliance with an applicable regulation over the reporting period (e.g., 6 months).
    • Information Collection Requests – EPA issues an Information Collection Request (ICR) to gather information that will help the agency review of rules (e.g., Plywood and Composite Wood Products).

    How do I access CEDRI?

Accessing CEDRI requires an EPA Central Data Exchange (CDX) account. Users must register for a CDX account and obtain the necessary permissions to access CEDRI. Detailed instructions and user guides are available on the EPA’s CEDRI webpage.

What types of data can be submitted through CEDRI?

CEDRI supports the submission of various types of data, including:

    • Emissions data, such as pollutant quantities and sources
    • Compliance reports, including deviations and corrective actions
    • Performance test results and monitoring data
    • Other required documents and supporting information

How does CEDRI improve data accuracy and compliance?

CEDRI’s electronic reporting system reduces the chances of manual errors associated with paper-based submissions. The platform’s validation tools identify potential issues before data is submitted, allowing users to correct errors and ensure accurate reporting. Additionally, standardized templates help maintain consistency across submissions.

What are the benefits of using CEDRI?

The benefits of using CEDRI include:

    • Improved data quality and accuracy
    • Streamlined reporting processes
    • Reduced administrative burden and costs
    • Enhanced compliance monitoring and enforcement
    • Greater transparency and accessibility of environmental data

Can CEDRI be used for state-level reporting?

Yes, CEDRI can be used for both federal and state-level reporting. Please note, however, that CEDRI reporting may or may not fulfill the obligation to report to your state/local/tribal (SLT) agency. Unless your SLT agency has specifically stated that they will accept a CEDRI-only submittal, facilities generally need to submit all reports in the normal format (hardcopy, email, and/or SLT electronic system) that the SLT agency accepts

How do I get support for using CEDRI?

The EPA provides extensive support resources for CEDRI users, including user guides, tutorials, FAQs, and a helpdesk. Users can access these resources through the EPA’s CEDRI webpage or contact the helpdesk for personalized assistance.

Are there any costs associated with using CEDRI?

CEDRI itself is a free service provided by the EPA. However, facilities may incur costs related to the preparation and submission of data, such as monitoring equipment, staff training, and data management systems.

Is Encino Environmental Services capable of submitting reports for their customers?
