Encino’s EmSAT™ Satellite Methane Detection System

Ultra-High Resolution iSIM-90

Ultra-High Resolution is a technique used to retrieve a high spatial resolution image from a series of low spatial resolution images, without loss of information. SATLANTIS has developed its own Ultra-High Resolution algorithm that can improve the resolution by a factor of up to 2.5. Additionally, onboard processing of ultra-resolved images allows significant reductions in the amount of data to download to the Ground stations.

Encino’s EmSAT™ Satellite Methane Detection System is a joint venture with SATLANTIS, a space technology company providing advanced optical payloads for Low-Earth Observation (LEO) applications.

EmSAT employs multi-spectral science incorporated within a highly sensitive optical device providing high-resolution imagery with extremely low minimum detectable limits (MDLs) enabling clients to “screen” critical assets with high-frequency revisitation (12 passes per day).

The EmSat Difference, You Can See It

Ultra-High Resolution is a technique used to retrieve a high spatial resolution image from a series of low spatial resolution images, without loss of information.

Without Ultra-High Resolution

With Ultra-High Resolution

EmSAT uses iSIM (integrated Standard Imager for Microsatellites), a new generation of High and Very High-Resolution optical imagers for Earth Observation satellites with video capability.

The iSIM instrument operates in the visible, near infrared and short-wave infrared spectral ranges, supporting innovative applications.

iSIM Key Features

IMAGE QUALITY
o iSIM delivers homogeneous quality images
o The instrument keeps the same quality in the entire field of view
o Good SNR & MTF

MULTISPECTRAL
o All spectral bands contain the same information.
o Delivers PAN & MS bands with the same resolution (PAN 1,0/ MS 1,0 instead of ¼)

SUPERB SWATH
o The Panoramic version of iSIM family offers a large swath (iSIM-90, Panoramic delivers 26km @ 500km)

CUSTOMER CONFIGURATION
o iSIM family of payloads can adapt to specific needs
o Wide array of possibilities of configuration and personalization (10 different configurations available for iSIM-90)

LIGHTWEIGHT PAYLOAD
o Unprecedented mass to resolution ratio
o iSIM -90: Binocular 4kg / 8U – Monocular 3kg / 5U
o Resolution 1,65m (GRD @500km)
o Wide Spectral Coverage (PAN-VNIR-SWIR)

Applications

High-definition, multispectral and hyperspectral imaging technology for intelligent, real-time analysis and quantification

Real-time visual leak detection that you can see

Accurate quantification of emissions volumes

Maximize the ROI on LDAR teams

Fix leaks fast, keep product in the pipe

Achieve environmental performance goals

Improved safety profile

Capitalize on certified natural gas markets, including RSG

Importance of Agility

EmSAT is equipped with agile technology, a unique capability in the market. Pointing accuracy, allowing capturing high-quality images continuously while the satellite observes along and across its orbit, following non-linear structures on Earth. This allows EmSAT to take Ultra-High Resolution images of pipelines and other infrastructure, keeping the target at the center of the image frame.
This system creates a network of feedback loops which allow clients to quickly respond to emissions events and dispatch LDAR teams to where they can make the most positive impact.

Benefits of Agile Satellite Technology

Cost-effectively monitor entire fields, infrastructure, and hard-to-reach operations (e.g., offshore) for methane and VOC emissions.

Dispatch LDAR crews where they can make the greatest positive impact field-wide.

Comprehensive, verifiable data for minimizing false positives

Convert fugitive emissions and lost product into revenue streams.

Combined with EmVision™ continuous emissions monitoring system (CEMS), obtain a more comprehensive visual analysis of your emissions profile,

Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI)

In the world of remote sensing, resolution (and sensitivity) is directly proportional to the quality and performance of the optical package. While the optics utilized in Earth observation (from Space) are optimized through material selection, milling, and performance testing – they are subject to “noise” relating to subspace and atmospheric interferences (radiative transfer). To compensate for the physical limitations of space-based optical sensing, SATLANTIS has developed ML, AI, and embedded logic at the edge to further enhance image processing and emissions insights.

Encino and Satlantis are aligned to create a vertically integrated emissions monitoring and quantification “ecosystem” which enables customers to develop, enhance, and/or augment their current GHG Emissions and Sustainability Program. Through the democratization of space technology, industry now has access to high-quality satellite data in real, or near-real time.

Due to the lower costs associated with the deployment and operation of microsatellites (as compared to geo-stationary or mid-orbit), the Encino and SATLANTIS Team efficiently delivers “satellites as a service” – providing a cost-effective option for remote sensing and GHG surveillance.
